The use of renewable energies is heavily dependent on the availability of sun and wind. In order to advance the global expansion of renewable energies, it is crucial to decouple energy production from consumption. However, the use of electricity storage is very expensive, controversial from an environmental point of view due to the use of rare earth materials and limited to their service life. An alternative is to store energy in the form of heat, which is cheaper, more sustainable and simpler.

Electricity from renewable energies can be easily converted into heat with little loss (Power To Heat). This heat can be stored in our high-temperature heat storage (TES). If necessary, this heat can be converted back into electricity (Heat To Power). These process steps are carried out with a Carnot battery.
